One of my favorite parts of traveling is being exposed to new cultures and traditions. On our recent trip to Malaysia, we visited Central Market in Kuala Lampur also known as Pasar Seni. I tend to pick up a little bit of art from wherever we visit. A small souvenir that reminds of us of the place and inspires us when we return home. We entered an art shop here and I was mesmerized by the gorgeous paintings of different landscapes. When intrigued by the landscapes possibly inspiring our next trips, I was told that many were inspired by landscapes in China but also ones that the artist created out of their imagination. I noticed a lot of gold in the paintings, golden mountain tops, golden trees. It was explained to me that in Chinese feng shui these are symbols of good luck and good fortune to come. A golden pathway bordered by golden trees meant a bright future was to come filled with abundance and wealth. I saw green hills and mountains and was told that these had been commissioned as mountains signified support in feng shui and people wanted to hang these in their homes. I left the shop feeling so inspired and so intrigued by our different cultures and the stories we tell. Mostly at the meaning we derive from what we do and how that brings so much richness and depth to the lives we lead.
